When April was four years old, she was playing in a partially filled tub of water under the water pump spout. She fell into it head first. She was positioned as so that she could not get back up. Seemingly she was swallowing the water instead of drowning from it getting in her lungs. Luckily Grandpa Caywood happened to see her feet and legs hanging out of the tank as he went out the door and pulled her out. As he got her out, a lot of water came out of her nose and mouth. After coughing up what little water that was in her lungs she seemed to be OK. However; she had swallowed so much water, her stomach was much distended. It stayed that way for a few hours.
My parents did not have electricity so they kept their dairy products partially submerged in the tank made from an old oil barrel that Daddy made for the holding tank
I was inside the house and never knew about the incident until it was all over. I can only imagine how panicked I would have been. My daddy child proofed the tank and the children were warned about playing in the water again. The scare was mostly like enough warning.
