I was born on a farm northeast of Nash, Oklahoma on January 23, 1931, to Orville and Banna Clover Caywood. The family moved to a farm near Sand Creek, Oklahoma when I was three years old. My brother, Willis, sister, Lila and I attended Mt. View Dist #61 in Grant County and transferred to Gore Consolidated #1, also in Grant County. Mt. View was a small one room country school for grade one through the eighth grade. My art and writing ability surfaced early in my life during my grade school years.

At age 16, I married Wayne S. Guffy of Byron on November 22, 1947, at Van Buren, Arkansas. I spent most of my married life raising our twelve children, while Wayne made the living for the family. A son, Danny, died at age 18 in a car accident in 1972. I claim Wayne’s daughter, Connie, from a prior marriage as one of my own.

I was a very busy homemaker. I cooked from “scratch,” made most of the children's clothes, cut their hair and was active with all of their school activities. I taught Junior High Sunday School at the Byron Christian Church for fifteen years and sponsored the Byron Christian Youth Fellowship for twelve years. I was well known around this area for decorating for weddings and showers as well as for my cake decoration. I was very active in all community affairs until my health deteriorated. I was also the USS Andromeda AKA 15 Reunion Secretary for ten years. Wayne served on the “Andy” during WW II.

I relied on my humorous nature to get through many trials and tribulations during my lifetime. I inherited my sense of humor from my father and have passed the trait down to most of our children.

Wayne and I have a combined total of over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Wayne and I celebrated our “Golden” wedding anniversary in November of 1997 with all of our living children in attendance. We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary in 2007 with all home except Connie and David who was in Iraq.

My leisure time is spent, for the most part, writing short stories about my childhood and family. I also dabble in poetry.

I dedicate this website with my love to our twelve children with hopes they will enjoy the stories and pass them on to their families and their families. May others who receive this enjoy these stories too.
