When we built our home in 1951, we had to have a Septic Tank dug for our new bathroom. Wayne had a friend who had a form for a huge one, so Wayne decided that would be great and would not have to be emptied for many years. Wayne hand dug the hole, added the forms and poured Cement and it was ready to connect to the bathroom. We went for years without cleaning our mammoth septic tank that was just outside of our one and only bathroom.

Some guys were driving around the community hacking jobs for cleaning septic tanks. Wayne finally decided it might be a good time to have ours cleaned and gave them the job.

The guys uncovered one of the three heavy concrete lids that covered the cesspit and pumped the contents into a tank on the back of their truck. If I remember correctly, there were three loads. They would have had to travel many miles to dump each tank so Wayne told them to take it to an old oil well site which in city block measurement would be about two or more blocks north of our house. Nothing grew there because of the past oil well drilling and where two small ponds had been dug and later covered that the oil company used for water pits. I actually thought our pasture would have been the best place to dump the waste, but I think Wayne had the idea of some fertilization on the barren site.

It was a hot Oklahoma at the time. Wayne and our young son Jimmy went with the men when they dumped the sewage. Wayne told me that evening after the men left that there were many bedroom "Toys" floating in the sewage. I expressed how embarrassed I was. Wayne assured me they had surely seen things like that many times before. I had supposed they would have deteriorated over a length of time.

Jimmy was young, but yet old enough to know what the "floaties" were. A couple of days later he took his older brother and sister to sneak view mama and daddy's toys. By then, those toys had expanded to an humongous size from the sewer gases and extreme heat. I am sure it was a sight to behold. Wayne thought all of this was hilarious of course! From then on no sewage was ever dumped on any of our farms!

I wonder if any of those things went airborne and floated past our neighbor’s homes?
