My little sister Lila has been very tiny all of her life and never got above the five foot mark as an adult. When she started to school at age 5, she looked like she was not more than 3 years old.

When Lila was in grade School in the mid 1940's, she played on the grade school basketball team for Gore consolidated #1 in Grant Co., Oklahoma.

Lila was aggressive and very quick to go after a stray ball. One game in particular, she was assigned to guard a very tall and gangly girl with excessively long arms and legs. She was the only tall offensive player on Lila's end of the ball court. I really think it was done as a "lark" and it did draw many laughs and muffled snickers from the sidelines.

The game got on its way and Lila spent much time jumping up and down, trying to guard her tall opponent. When the Gore team came into possession of the ball, Lila was completely entrapped by her lanky guard. The girl, who towered over her, waved her long arms and had her long legs spread apart so Lila could not toss the ball to any of her team mates, nor dribble around her. Lila stood there for a few moments as if pondering the situation, when all of a sudden she hunkered down and darted right between the girls long legs.

The girl just stood there looking bewildered as she looked around searching for her "man" while the crowd roared with laughter. 12-10-2000.
