Our children and I attended the Byron Christian Church, a little Country Church at Byron, OK. Each Sunday after church was out, I took them to the grocery store where most of the small congregation stopped before going home.

One particular Easter Sunday, I warned the girls not to choose anything that might stain their new dresses. Each Easter, I made special Easter dresses for the four girls who were accented by white gloves, purses, hats and patent shoes. Our little Kathy was about two years old, a usually quiet and agreeable little girl, but on this particular Sunday she wanted a chocolate covered ice cream bar. She asked me if I would buy one for her. I told her not that day, because she might ruin her pretty dress if she got chocolate on it. Kathy puckered up as she sobbed softly and walked away.

I purchased sandwich material for our lunch that day. When I was almost through checking out, I told the children to go to the car and "load up" ahead of me. That way, we could save some time. When I got into the car, I asked the group if everyone was in the car and ready to go. All chimed in unison, "yes" so I drove the two miles on home. When we arrived home, the kids ran into the house to take off their fancy clothes while I started making our lunch. One by one, they came back to the kitchen to eat. All seemed well.

A few moments later, while I was standing in the kitchen, I heard a knock on the screen door. I turned to see our neighbor, Nadola Tucker, standing at the door with her hands cupped to her eyes as she looked in. She started laughing as she chirped "Lois, did you forget something?" I looked about and said "Oh no, did I leave one of the kids?" She said "you sure did!” I went out to their car and there sat Kathy on Johnny Tucker’s lap still pouting and not about to get out. They told me they just happened to find her sitting on the floor hiding behind the ice cream box, arms folded and pouting. After that, I made sure that it was "I" who counted the eight children.
