There is a funny story behind this picture taken right after we said our vows in Van Buren, AR at the county Courthouse. I was very relieved that the vows were over because I was just 16, almost 17 years old and never fibbed about anything. The idea of having to say I was 18 when I was not, tore me up. I was so scared they could tell I was not telling the truth. I got away with the deceit without a hitch.
I used to be so very shy. I knew my hose had drooped, but I did not want Wayne to see me adjust them, so I just left them as they were. Most people who view the picture think I was wearing an ankle bracelet. Then the other thing was, dress styles were just coming out that long. I did not want/like the new look, so I tucked my dress up to be shorter, not knowing I had made the hem so uneven. My dress was a size 7 and I was a size 4-5, so I had to have it altered. It was of a beige crepe material with a green motif which resembled an initial. Years later, my wedding dress was accidentally washed after April tried it on and it got mixed with the wash. It came out somewhat shrunken and badly misshapen. One day when I got it out to look at it. I was upset with the way it looked and just threw it in the trash. I still regret tossing it away. I have my black patent platform shoes with the heels out and Wayne's brown oxford shoes stored in the cellar. His brown double breasted suit is packed away in his closet. Both of us bought new clothes for the occasion. My, but was ever I green about things back then, maybe that was a plus ! My sister Lila, spent the first night of our honeymoon in the same room with us I have to laugh about that one now. She did a lot of studying for a test in the dressing and bathroom area Ha! Ah those were the good ole' days ! |
