I was riding in the car with April, when Emily and Adam were young, the two kids kept bickering at each other. April told them to stop fighting over and over, but the bickering went on and on as we rode along. One could easily tell April had all she could take of their disturbance. She became very quiet and then brought the car to a sudden halt. I was puzzled at what she would do. I expected her to do some reddening of their cabooses, but instead she got out of the car, opened the car trunk and ordered the two little hecklers to get in the trunk. At first they were bewildered, thinking she was just trying to scare them, until she barked a direct command for them to "GET IN!"
Emily and Adam slowly got out of the car and crawled into the trunk, still in disbelief that their mama would really leave them there. Aaron, who had been very quiet and now even quieter, remained inside of the car. April closed the trunk lid, slid under the steering wheel and off we went. I assumed April would stand there a while and let them realize she would not tolerate their actions, but she drove on another 4-5 miles before she stopped to let them out. I was squirming in my seat hoping no one would come along and see their hasty extraction.
Emily and Adam were quiet for a while after the episode. April said nothing. Emily later admitted to being scared in the dark, but Adam said it was fun and he would like to do it again. We knew better.
One would now be charged with child abuse if this incidence happened today.
