In 1974, when Jon was in the seventh grade, his class was practicing for their class play to be presented with the rest of the grade school. He asked me if he could borrow a bra of mine to wear in the play where he would be dressed as a girl. At first, I was reluctant to loan such a personal item to him, but he told me no one would ever see it. I should have known better because he did not seem to mind at all playing the role of a female. After some badgering, I gave in and more or less forgot the incident.

A few weeks later the Burlington Grade school announced the date of the upcoming school program. Still not thinking about Jon’s class play, I looked forward to attending the event as well as the rest of the family.

We went to the program early so we would be able to sit fairly close to the front of the auditorium stage so I could hear all of the classes speak. Kent was in kindergarten, Mark was in the second grade and Owen was in the fifth grade. Each class from Kindergarten class on up to the 7th and 8th grade presented their portion of the evening entertainment.

Then, it was time for the seventh and eighth Grade class to present their play. All went well for me up to this point. Some of the seventh and eighth grade boys walked on stage dressed as girls. The crowd roared with laughter. I laughed too until I saw Jon come walking on stage wearing my size 42 DD brassiere fully stuffed under his blouse. The crowd roared even louder. I was aghast. I wonder how many people realized Jon’s padding was filling up his mother’s bra.
