Susan was our fourth child and a very, very tiny little two year old. With my brood of five young children aged one to six years old, I dressed and fed them in unison to save my valuable time.

I always took our children to church on Sunday morning. I had them take their baths in pairs and asked them to put on their underwear and what clothes they could dress in by themselves. Then, I had them stand by or sit on the sofa for further inspection and finish dressing in their Sunday best.

One particular Sunday morning, we were running a little late and the bathing and dressing was done more quickly than usual. I did a quick double take of the five little cherubs all lined up and standing at attention in front of the living room sofa. With their faces shining brightly and their freshly combed hair, any mother would have been very proud of them.

All seemingly went well and we made it to Sunday school on time. The children were all well behaved and knew where to go to their classes, even Susan. She was so tiny she had to crawl up the steps, which was directly in front of the pews. All went well until class was over and I just happened to glance toward the front of the church to see Susan climbing down those stairs backwards and what do you think I saw? It was the shiniest little bare bottom you could ever imagine! I quickly ran up to her with a baby in my arms, grabbed her hand and with three other children running after me, made a quick escape out the door to my car. If anyone at church spotted her little unclad bottom, they never ever mentioned it…. to me anyway.

You can bet that I looked under those little dresses after that incident.
