I played for the Gore High School “Bears” basketball team in Grant County, OK when I was a sophomore. Our suits where made from bright orange/gold satin material with green trim. Our school colors were actually green and gold, but our new superintendent wanted a change. The new style shirts had a tail that snapped at the crotch; somewhat like a baby’s Onesie. The good thing about the styling was; we were not always tucking our shirts in. The bad thing was; they were uncomfortable and made extra work for us snapping them up. Some of the girls helped each other.

One game we played that year was against a tough and scrappy rival team. I was playing as hard as I could when all of a sudden my suit felt “different.” I did not have the time to check for the problem at the time. By the time I looked down when the ball was on the opposite court, I found that my pants were actually coming down and soon would have dropped to my knees. Somehow, during the intense game the snaps on the side of my pants had come unsnapped. By the suit being made of satin, it made them easy to slide down unnoticed. Perhaps my scrappy guard was at fault.

It was not easy keeping my composure while pulling my pants back up, knowing I had to have been seen pulling up and snapping my pants by the spectators. I can only envision what would have happened had they dropped down any further. I would have tripped and splattered on the floor then have been the talk of the school the next day. I was an extremely shy person back then. I know my red face did not match the orange and green suit I wore.
