Wayne Sluder Guffy was born on Oct 30, 1922 to James Luther and Jessie Ruth Sluder Guffy at the family home in the Fish Hatchery community. Wayne attended Sunday School at Union Valley church. He attended grade school at Union Valley just a few miles southwest of his childhood home. He attended high school at Byron, Oklahoma where he graduated as Valedictorian of his class in 1942.

Wayne worked on the family farm until he joined the US Navy on November 12, 1943. He served as a Fire Controlman aboard the USS Andromeda, AKA 15 for thirty one months during WWII. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war. He participated in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Southern France and Okinawa. Wayne was honorably discharged as a 2/C Petty Officer on October 28. 1945.

After Wayne's discharge, he returned to the Byron area. He took up farming on a 160 acre farm southeast of Byron that belonged to his parents. Wayne and Lois Louella Caywood were married on November 22, 1947 at Van Buren, AR He purchased the farm where they lived in 1951 and added several more farms to his operation in following years.

In addition to his own farming duties, Wayne custom baled and swathed hay for many years for local farmers. For seven winters he worked in the oil patch as well as pumping sand for two years at Kirkpatrick's Sand and Gravel.

Wayne is the father of thirteen children; Connie O'neal, Wayne S, April Yvonne, James Martin, Susan Denise, Danny Dwayne, Karen Dianne, Kathy Delene, David Dwight, Jonny Darren, Owen Terry, Charles "Mark" and Kent Gregory. Their son, Danny died at the age of 18 in a car accident on August 21, 1972.

Wayne passed away on April 11, 2016 at the age of 93+ years
